They called him Memphis Slim.
Now, he saves souls.
I hated Charles Hunt. Growing up with a minister as a father was not easy. My dresses were long and make-up invisible. Friday nights consisted of weekly revivals. Prom never happened, and I did not have my first boyfriend until my freshman year of college. I was miserable. Daddy knew what was out there. He lived it. It was determined; I would not.
Shot in the head and left for dead. A fervent story that only he can tell, and through this testimony H.E.L.P. was birthed. Human Element Life Preservers is a non-profit ministry serving to rehabilitate substance abusers and anyone struggling with addiction. I have seen my Dad give the shirt off his back and then offer his shoes. I watched him rescue lost souls in the middle of the night only to coach them through rehabilitation and the souls choose to be lost again. I saw my Mom support him when it appeared as if all was hopeless.
I witnessed ministry.
No longer known as Memphis Slim, Daddy was ordained as Pastor on September 11, 2016. Faithful and selfless with over 25 years in ministry, he is a hero.
My Dad.....
